Cosmetology school training covers the basics of hairstyles such as cuts, colors and perms. Courses also include nail techniques, make-up, skin care and other specialties, so teaching men’s and women’s hair will be part of a wider range of courses.

Barber training focuses on the men’s head and beard, including advanced shaving and cutting techniques. If your state’s laws restrict the handling of a razor and you want to be a full-service barber, you will need special training at a barber school to meet these requirements.

Salons have a social aspect: there can be giddy bridal parties getting ready for weddings and play stations to keep toddlers occupied while their mothers enjoy a bit of pampering. Barbershops also play a common role, but tend to be more discreet and less crowded. Visualizing yourself in each can help you realize which ones might make you feel more comfortable in your day-to-day life.

The differences in men’s and women’s hairstyles also play a role in the products they use to maintain their hairstyles. Since women tend to have more hair and perm and color it more, for predominantly female clients, it will require you to know more about the products that will help them maintain the look they are trying to achieve. Barbers also shave their clients’ facial hair, so they must be familiar with shaving-related products as well as those designed to help men maintain their typically shorter hairstyles or no hair at all.

SCHOOLS

Cayan Business Center has many schools nearby, including the American School of Dubai (0.8 km) and International School Of Creative Science.

In terms of performance, there are 11 schools in the area that have achieved either the top two government inspection ratings of ‘Very Good’ or ‘Outstanding’, including GEMS Dubai American Academy, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ and Dubai College, which is also rated ‘Outstanding’ ‘

International School Of Creative Science

The International School of Creative Science [ASCS] is a new dual-curriculum Arab-American school now in Phase 1 of its provision in Al Barsha South. Location information can be found here. Its location is almost immediately adjacent to the GEMS World Academy on a very large 11 acre campus.

All Creative Science schools are aimed at Muslim families who are looking for an education for their children that balances the requirements of the Arab and Western educational approaches. The aim is for students to graduate as well-rounded young men and women with the Western qualifications necessary to continue their studies at university, while being immersed in and appreciating the richness of the wider Arab and Muslim cultural and religious contexts that are part of their heritage. It should noted that a high school diploma alone is not enough to enter the world’s top universities. It set at a level for 16-year-olds, and in the UK system it only compared to GCSEs, not just A-levels.

For parents not aiming for an American curriculum, BEAM offers parents an alternative choice of two UK schools which are also in operation: the School of Creative Science Nad Al Sheba (A Level/MOE) and the International School of Creative Science, both of which offer IGCSE/A. Level-based curriculum.

It is too early to provide a meaningful overview of Creative Science Schools. All start-up schools are a risk, and it’s important that parents visit each school on their shortlist to really get a feel for what’s on offer – and the school’s potential. Like many start-up schools, discounts offered, which in this case for the first three years at the school. But ultimately, we shouldn’t trust them to distract potential parents from the value proposition for fees.

The American School of Dubai

The American School of Dubai is an independent, non-profit, American Pre-K through Grade 12 international school offering an American education. The school established in 1966 and known Jumeirah American School, now located in the Al-Barsha community of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

American schools can read our American Curriculum Guide manual here. In short, we believe that every American school must meet four basic requirements. It must first accredited (which is now a request in Dubai). Secondly, the granting of a high school diploma must signed by a recognized US School Board – without the internal diploma of the high school, it has a dubious value.
Thirdly, schools must offer students the options of Advanced Placement (or alternative provision of International Baccalaureate Diploma or Career-Related Program)-for many universities has little value without them. Finally, schools must follow the Common Core curriculum and Next Generation Science to ensure responsibility.

Indirectly there is a significant and valuable potential for large schools to leverage their alumni. Networks are increasingly critical as students embark on their careers and schools of this scale offer a much broader base of potential contacts. Directly, there is an expectation that larger schools, given their income, will invest in very high quality infrastructure, outstanding teaching staff and significant breadth of resources.

They much better equipped to do this than smaller schools that simply do not have access to the core income that their larger counterparts can access. Expectations are high for the Creative Science schools to deliver here, but it is too early for us to do anything but steer parents to interrogating the school’s plans as it moves to future phases.
